I have five bumblebee gobies, two of them I bought previous to the other three. The first two are very small, less than 1" long. The second lot are much bigger and fatter, approx 1.5". Since adding the new ones, the two smaller gobies have turned very pale almost see through and get chased around by the larger gobies.

Is their colour due to them being stress?

Should I remove the smaller gobies from the tank?

i have a mix of doriae (larger, clearly defined darker colour bands) and xanthoxona (smaller, less even and defined colouration bandings) bumblebee gobies; they all vary in colour quite a bit - i believe that the female doriaes go much darker orange especially if in spawning condition, but theres more variation in the smaller xanthozonas - one in particular can vary from a pale translucent yellow to a much darker yellow, whereas the other two xanthozonas are darker and dont seem to vary too much - i had assumed that the paler one was the male and the two darker ones females, going by what i had read about the doriaes. it may just be sexual dichromatism that you are noticing.

The doriaes are definitely bigger and fatter than the xanthozonas too, if theres that much variation in size, is it possible you could have a mix of the 2?
