Hi all,

I've got a sick Bumblebee Catfish.
Around a week ago i noticed he was swimming around during the day (which he never has done before), then around 4 days ago i found him just lying on the gravel at the bottom not moving but breathing. I left him like that because he was acting strange but i didnt see any immediate danger. Anyways he was like that the next two days but floating around like it was too much effort to swim. I gave him a salt bath and he went crazy, he still had alot of energy, not like most of the fish i've ever had to give a salt bath.

So at the present he is still floating around the bottom of the tank, he's obviously getting weaker as he rarely moves now just floats around in the current though hes still breathing.

I have no idea what to do, he has no visible infections, all my other fish are perfect.

Any suggestions would help greatly. If i dont hear anything soon i think i may have to put him out of his misery.

EDIT:
Some more info:

PH is 7.2
0 Ammonia and nitrite.
20-40 nitrate.
water temp is 27.3 (a little high but hasn't been a problem before)

Its a 4x2ft communal tank consisting of salmon cats, various sharks, bristlenose and a ghost knife.
The only spare tank i have is occupied by an extremely tempramental jewel cichlid, so no quarantine tank.
I've had the bumblebee for around a year and a half, i also did a water change the day after i noticed he was swimming around in the open.

Catfish never tolerate salt to well as they are scaless fish, so i wouldn't do another one.
I had a plec with the same symtoms, layed to one side at the bottom of the tank, but mine was breathing heavy more than usual i was treating him for a bacterial infection, plus his tail bended towards the end.
Has the fish colour altered too like going pale or darkened in colour.

If he has changed colour it would only be very slightly pale. Its hard to say. He's still doing the same thing thismorning, floaing around the tank breathing.

If hes not dead or at least a little better tonight i will have to freeze him.

Hows the fish doing.
