saw quite a few on my lfs.
or did i mis-spelled it?
they are very small and can be mistaken as gravels until they move.

any experience on them?

:wub:

Bumble bee gobys (aka BBG) are quite common, just about any one who owns a low-end brackish tank has them. They are not as easy to keep as you may think however. I own millions of them, one of my favorite fish.

your avatar is like the ones i saw at my lfs (only smaller)..
are they lively fishes?
i do not want to spend so much time looking for them if i decide to keep them.
i have a 180L.
:thanks:

The BBG in my avatar is slightly larger than most, but most BBG's will grow to about 1.25 inches. No they arent too lively because they lack a swim bladder, but they have a special pelvic fin which allows them to "hop" around and their anal fin allows them to cling to glass and other things within the aquarium. They dont swim, but watching them hop around is a lot more entertaining. If amecorrect 180 liters is roughly 50 gallons, its plenty large enough for BBG's. Is it a brackish tank and what are the current fish in there?

i got some mollies (w/ babies), platies (w/ babies) , pakistani loaches, bronze corries (w/ babies) and the betta.
thinking of adding glass catfishes and zebra loaches..
i am hesitant on adding aquarium salt because of the corries and loaches but occasionally do (but not a lot) when putting medication..
i am not into large fishes.
:blush:

To make a brackish tank you need marine salt, not aquarium salt. The same salt used for saltwater tanks. You cannot house BBG's in your tank unfortuantly. Unless the pH is high and the water is hard you MAY be able to keep them, but the are far best suited in a slightly brackish tank. And feeding would be difficult with those fish, BBG's often die due to starvation. The wont take flakes,pllets, or sticks, or even freeze-dried foods. They will take frozen foods and SMALL live foods only.

To quote CFC "Never try to acclimatise a non brackish fish to brackish water, freshwater fish have not adapted to take the high levels of salt in brackish water and it will kill them, the same goes for brackish fish into freshwater."

ph = 7 ish
hardness = 10 ish

what do you think?

Nope. pH should be at least 8 in a FW tank for BBG's. Ideally they should have salt added to their aquarium, producing a specific gravity of up to 1.005. I think I will rephrase my self, BBG's will 9 out of 10 times NEED slightly brackish water.

thanks soooo much for clearing things up...
you saved some BBG's lives...
i won't be taking them in then...
i think i will have a talk with my lfs because they keep them with the corries...
i think i just noticed 1 dead BBG when i went there a few hours ago...
:good:

i got 3 glass catfishes instead!
:good:

thanks to the moderator for moving this thread to the proper topic/forum...
