Bully platy

Hi I’ve just seperated my bully platy from the tank but don’t know how long I should keep him there .

if he’s a bully you should never put him back. either rehome him, or keep him separate the rest of his life.

make sure you have another area set up that you can put her in if he bullies her.

Hi , he is just bullying another 2 platy which my original fish . I have added more to the tank but he still picks on the two . One in particular . He doesn’t bother any of the other fish which are tetras , danios , minnows and corys.

Hi , I’ve 8 minnows , 3danios , 8 neon tetra , 2 black corys and about 15 shrimp and a nerite .

Platies have a pecking order with the most dominant male bullying the others to keep them lower down the pecking order. Adding or removing males can upset the pecking order and cause fights. Generally once a fish has been removed, it should not be returned to that tank.

When I removed him I also have removed another , then I added another 5 new plates with the bullies one will that make a difference to put them both back in . The bullying ones seem to be calm now .

Having more males in the tank can help reduce aggression but it depends on who is top fish when you add the bullies back in. There might be fights but hopefully they sort it out quickly and things settle down after a few hours. If there are still fights after a couple of days, you will need to separate them.

Thanks , Im going to give them another day or two then try them again . im seeing if the bullied one will get matey with the new additions as I got females now .

mixing males and females can make things worse because it gives the males something to fight over (girls)
