Posted this in the Hardware section but haven't had any responses, so thought I would try the planted tank section ;)

Thinking of replacing my aquarium bulbs in the Planted 4ft as they have been going about 4years and one has started to go black at the edges, even though it's still working...

Currently I have two bulbs on the four foot tank:

1 x Life~Glo Fluorescent Aquarium Lamp
Full Sun spectrum, directed aperture illumination, high intensity.

1 x Power~Glo Fluorescent Aquarium Lamp
Total illumination for freshwater plants, high intensity.

Anyone have any better reccommendation a different type otherwise I think I will go with the same again?? Ideally looking for good colouration from the fish and healthy plant growth like everyone does :good:

Thanks,

Lawrence

Any bulb so long as it is triphosphor/full spectrum (peaks in the blue and red wavelengths of the spectrum) are fine for growing plants. The kelvin doesn't matter. That's purely for aesthetics and only contribute to our eyes..
Cheaper bulbs can be found at lampspecs
People prefer different colour temperatures. 3000K and 65000K is a good balance IMO. SO is 6500K and 10,000K.
