I just got a noticed from my building management yesterday that they will be putting pesticides all over my apartment to kill all the roaches and I'm concern about my tank and if it will affect or kill my fish because I already spent so much money into it and I don't think that my building would compensate if i lost or if my tank gets poisoned..Does anybody know what I should do?? I was thinking of covering my tank with a blanket or something, but I don't know if that's good.....Thanks.....

If you were to cover it with something, I'd say put a garbage bag over it or something plastic, then wrap some kind of duct tape around it so nothing can sneak into the tank.

Just my 2 cents worth, though.

YES!!!!!! It WILL hurt them...DEFINATELY!!!. Don't laugh...I would stop any airstones. Seriously...I'd consider shrink wrapping the tank and stop any filtration if it can't be protected well. You can't obviously leave it this way for long. Pesticides in the air will definitely settle and dissolve in the water and the result would be disastrous. At least make sure that anything pumping air in is stopped. Shrink wrapping might be radical, but, at least cover it and reduce any way that air comes into contact with the water or gets circulated thru by a power head or airstone. SH

Definitely turn off the pumps and cover any openings with plastic or metal if possible. IMO you should probably use plastic wrap with tinfoil to maxmise the protection. The fish should be fine for a few hours without any air pumps or filtration though if you have a biowheel or other biological filtration like that, be sure to set it in the tank water, preferably submerged if possible.

Add..if there was any time to use activated carbon, I think that this is a good time to add it to your filter. In the off chance that some contamination occurs, the carbon might absorb it and reduce any risks to your fish. SH
