my mollie is swimming to the top..eatin air bubbles. then comin back down n blowin bubbles out...is that normal? is she just playing? :good:

i have seen this when the water is too warm and lack of oxygen, also what are you water stats, they can do this if ammonia or nitrites are high.

How big is your tank?
Whats the water tempreture?

water says in normal temp range...n i have a 10 gallon tank, 3 mollies and 6 platys
all stats in normal range except nitrite is kinda high
also just had a platie die from fin rot and have a few more with it, got med to treat it today and started treating it

as for oxygen if it were low what could i do? live plants seem kinda hasle was hoping something else might be ok, would a bubbler do anything good for it?

add a bubbler although its not completely necessary as long as the water from your filter breaks the surface of the water
if not then definately add a bubbler

do a 20-30% water change every day until u get the nitrite down

what do you mean by "normal temp range"? the platys need about 76-82F and im sure the mollies are somewhere pretty close to that range
idealy 80F is great for the fish

make sure you follow exact instructions on the meds or they wont be as effective

I would add an air bubbler for sure as there are to many fish in the tank already.

you all keep telling me im over stocked... but ive been to 3 different pet stores now and they tell me im fine....

If you read HERE you will see it says that Platys can get anywhere from 2 to 3 inches. And you have 6 platys so that is anywhere from 12 to 18 inches of fish already. And you only have a ten gallon tank.

If you read HERE you can see that it says the mollies can range in size from 2 inches, 4 inches and even up to 6inches.

So if you count adult inches of fish in your tank you have a lot in there overall.

I don't trust pet shops, they tell you lies, it's better to do your own research instead of asking the pet shop.

just remember the fish shops are after your money, it's very sad to say that a lot of fish shops are not concerned with the welfare of the animals, it's just money to them

we are here giving our advice for free in our own time, we have no ulterior motive

up to you who you trust

there's a link in my sig about fish suitable for a 10 gallon tank which may be of use to you.

unfortunately your problems may be deeper than a lack of oxygen, i'm fairly sure from your other post about the nitrite that your tank is cycling, high levels of ammonia and nitrite can do permenant damage to the fish respiratory system leaving them gasping for air when the water temp is fine and the water is well oxygenated. It's likely that having these fish in a cycling tank without preparing it properly first and without doing the daily water changes needed you have not only killed one platy through fin rot but no have done permanenet damage to a molly.

i'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but your playing with animals lives here you must take this seriously, return the fish to the shop and read up on fishless cycling, the link is in my sig. the best thing you can do for these fih is give them to someone who knows what they are doing and take the time to do your research before getting anymore

there's a pet shop which their heater got broken, instead of replacing it, they added a new one and left the broken one inside
