Hi,

I'm new to the forum, my name is Michelle. I have been reading and researching all I can to make sure our new tank is set up correctly. I have a question about bubbles on the top of our tank. We have a 50 Gallon tank with 7 white clouds and 8 green barbs. In the last day or two we begun to develop bubbles on the surface of the tank. They look like they are caused by increased surface tension. What would be causing this? Is it something we should be concerned about? The fish all look happy and healthy with good appetites and zippy personalities!!

Our tank readings are ph=8.0 (a little high I know, we're doing water changes with RO water, hopefully this will eventually bring this down) NH3 = 0 NO2=2.0 No3=5.0. It's been running for about 5 weeks. We cycled with white clouds, and just added the barbs this past weekend. We have a little green algae on the back glass but it's not too much. Are those readings ok? I am finding it difficult to determine a baseline of what constitutes dangerous levels of NO2, I know it is different for different fish, but a ballpark would help. We live in California and did a water change on saturday with tap water and conditioner. We have Chloramines which I figure accounts for the higher NO2 readings than normal. We went to RO water for the next change(Monday) and will be using RO from now on.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Michelle

It could be just because the tank is new and is still balancing out. IMO if the fish are ok then you needn't worry too much :)

BTW, welcome to TFF :D
