My betta guards everything that floats but hasn't blown a nest.
The fact that he flares at my platies when they go near the floating plants but mostly ignores them anywhere else in the tank tells me everything is normal and he is reaching maturity bless him.

I wasted an hour watching mine build a nest, it wasn't a big one, but it was cute
