Hello, I was hoping for some help.

I am currently setting up a SH tank. I have the aqua one 620T. I have read that bubbles in a SH tank is just asking for trouble, and although i am not putting bubbles in, my filter is.

The bubbles are not coming from the outlet, but what i believe is the overflow. As the water is going down the tube it is causing a voretx sucking air in and causing bubbles. It doesn't seem to matter at what height the water level is, there is just bubbles everywhere. I have tried extending the tubing to no affect, i have tried slowing the waterflow down in that compartment- no difference. What did sort of work was putting some fine filter wool in the hole, however the compartment started to slowly fill up and then i started to get bubbles out of the outlet. Plus having the filter wool in the hole it collected the dirt and would be a nitrate trap - not what i want.

Has anyone had this problem and solved it? Has anyone got any ideas on how to stop it? Help please!

Many thanks
Kelwoo

Cant help as Im not familiar with the tank. Any chance of some photos of the filter to see how it works. Could you run without it?

Hi i've tried to cover all possiblilites with the photos so please forgive if i've gone overboard.

This is the over filter picture. A pump sits in the tank and pumps the water up through the spraybar to the first compartment, which then flows into the second compartment and finally to the last compartment - the outlet and overflow.

Here is a picture of the problem compartment with the filter off. The bottom hole is the outlet, the top one is the overflow.

This is the same compartment with the filter running

This is the tank side of the compartment, you can see the outlet and some of the vortex that's being created by the overflow.

This is a picture trying to see the bubbles it produces.

Any help and suggestions will be greatly received.
To answer your question Barney i could run with it off but would have to get an external filter and that produces a whole new set of problems, so if possible i would like to sort the current filter bubble problem.

Some freshwater folk have extended the outlet down below the waterline and them placed a course sponge into the final chanber to reduce the ammount of air being sucked down. Obviously, being marine, the foam would need regular cleaning under the tap to prevent nitrates building up, but it could work here also :good:

Thank you very much rabbut.

I tried the tube and sponge separately but not together. It seems to have done the trick :hyper: i get one bubble every now and again but pretty much all the bubbles have stopped.

Thank you again. :good:
