My betta built a bubble nest but I don't have any females. Just the one boy. Why is he building a nest? Should I leave it there? Or destroy it? He's never done this before. It's pretty interesting to watch him build.

YES LEAVE IT THERE!!!!! Then go and buy a female and reward him :)

I don't want to breed and he is in a 5 gallon tank. It's not big enough.

oh well, let him keep it and give him extra dinnner tonight :)

He can get the frozen bloodworms that I should have given him yesterday

what are you talking about? u can breed in a 5 gallon, look at the breeders in thai n singapore, less than 1 gallon. i am breeding in 5's n they still survive, you should try it.

oh yea, and my new salamander hm, buildsREALLY REALLY big nests, first day, wen he adjusted to the tank, i went to check on him, and there was a huge nest in his styrafoam cup already, i was happy!

IMO 5 gallons is just big enough for spawning, not even big enough for raising fry, so PLEASE do not attempt raising fry in anything less than 20 gallons

And the breeders don't breed bettas in 1 gallon tanks, they raise the fish in their when they start showing aggresion in the group out tank..... Where are you getting this info from?

You will see him build bubble nest on a regular basis. There is no harm in it! It is a sign that you are taking good care of him.

Breeding Bettas is a lot of work and takes a huge commitment.

No baby bettas. I don't have anywhere to house the girl (gourami tank, livebearer tank, fry tank) and my mom might kill me of I get anymore fish. I have to figure out what to do with the ones I already have when I go to college in August. I'm taking my betta, but the rest need new homes

look in the video, they breed in those little things, and then put em in buckets. 5 galls is big enuff for the spawning part, and rasing the fry alittle in there and then putting them into other tanks. that is what i do. i spawn in a 5 or 10 gall and let them grow up alittle, before i seperate them into other tanks.

these guys are experts and do this for a living, they have many differnt ways of breeding them, the reccomended way to usually do it is in a min. of 5 gallons

yes i know, aquastar71 has like gud butt bettas, and he also has like really weird ones too, like there was a spade tail and something like that, it was a long time ago though. and im breeding in a 5 gal.

Im not sure whether my fenikksus is a spade or a vt his tail is pointed but not if that makes sense so i go by assumption that hes a vt :)
