I picked up a female that was completely stressed at walmart's yesterday or the day before... and I have noticed my male betta Zoom making bubbles along the side of his fish tank before but never this big. The female is not in the same tank, she's in her own tank but they can see each other and since last night (thats when I noticed more piling up then normal) until this afternoon (when I took this photo) he's made this big of a nest (at least I think its a bubble nest). Is it normal for males that aren't in with females to do this? Is he just overly excited that theres a female in the same house as him? She completely ignores him when he flares up, they will have stare-downs off and on though it seems like, both looking at each other from the separate tanks and not moving.
Thanks.

We have a betta in a tank on his own, with no other fish in sight, and he frequently makes big bubble nests. We like to think its his way of showing us he's happy. We went away for a few days, and when we got back the bubbles were gone, I think he missed us!

Male betta's will make bubble nests when they are happy, females can and do make nests as well but theirs don't last as long as males.

it is normal for them to make them and they do it while they are breeding to make sure the filter doesnt destroy it they will not like that lol
