I have noticed a brown substance appearing on some of my plants leaves. Funny thing is its even appeared on one of my ornaments that has fake leaves. Any ideas?

It is diatoms, they are common in new setups but they will clear up naturally after a couple of more months. For now just keep cleaning it off.

Ah ok cool. Can i just pick the leaves off and wait for more to grow?

I started having a slight problem with diatoms on the leaves shortly after I planted the tank but my tank has been planted for less than 2 weeks and it seems to be clearing up on it's own...perhaps the introduction of CO2?

amano shrimps love that stuff they ate mine like crazy the cherries nibble them but the amanos will clean a plant off in a night

I'm having the same thing on my plants, got about 7 in total(want alot more) and it looks like brown cotton wool. I'm doing 30% water changes every othe day to help get the nitrite levels down and at the same time I'm rubbing the leaves on my plants to clear it off. Good to hear it clears up on it's own though :good:
