Brown Stuff On My Plants & Snails

Hi guys, in my tank i bought some plants, they now have brown stuff on them and i dont know what it is. the tank has clear water. I also have notices several snails in the tank whihc i assume came with the plants.

Are snails bad for the tank?

What is the brown stuff on the plants, is it just the decay of the plant?

Any help appreciated.
