This is the first time I've noticed something like this. I have brown on the inside walls of the aquarium, also some on the white stones and plastic plants? How do I deal with this, should I change all the water and clean the aquarium, or should I keep some of the water and put it back into the aquarium?

what does it look like? i would scrub it off and do a good water change. is the tank in direct sun light? if it is it could be algae, i had once seen a tank with brown algae.

Yes, probably algae. Can be because the filter isn't big enough/cycled/there are too many fish so some fish waste is remaining in the water for the algae to use. Do you have live plants?

increase circulation and half lighting for 2 weeks.<div><br></div><div>Brown algae is caused by stray ammonia be it from an uncycled tank or one with a lack of flow.</div>

I've got this stuff in my 3ft tank its a pain but I just use an algae pad and wipe it off everynow and then or chuck a bristlenose in and they take car of most of it :)

Absolutely give it a good clean :good:

Thank you but should I do a total water change or leave some of the water behind in there or will that be leaving the problem behind.. Plus I need to empty enough of it to be able to get to the brown to clean it?

The tank is not in the sunlight but I recently finished cycling it. It was a new aquarium.
The water for now appears clear (ammonia levels normal, ph levels normal)

Could the filter be the cause, it's roughly around the time I should change it, but will it make a difference for the brown film or should I wait until I clean it up first?
