My tank is fully cycled and now has fish in. Bu only this week I have noticed a build up of a brown algea looking substance on my juwel stick on background, there is also some on some of the rocks.

Does anyone know what it actually is and where it could have possibly come from.

Whats the best solution to get rid of it because when I scrub the background the grey colouring comes off the rock effect.

As it's a new tank I don't want it to be ruined by something that I can avoid, so help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, my white gravel has gone all brown for some reason. How long are lights on for?
Probably about 12 hours or so.

Is that too long. Could that cause the brown algea. I have heard of green algea but not brown.

Sounds like diatoms, which are common in new tanks. Will go away on its own eventually so don't go crazy over trying to get rid of it.
