Okay the past couple weeks or so the inside of my tank on the glass has quite a bit of brown algae. After 3-4 days after I clean the glass it comes back, it's starting to become a bit of an eyesore. I have 60W over my 55 gallon tank and I usually have them on for 4-6 hours in the monring from around 8-12 or 2 and from 5-6 - 11-midnight. My tank has been set up for almost 3 months now. I don't think there is much I can do without increasing the light which could lead to green algae which in my opinion is worse. I just thought I'd ask if anyone had any tips or suggestions.

brown algea is usually an indication of new tank set up or direct sunlight hitting it. algea eaters wont eat brown algea. your better off with green algea. also 60 watts is considered low light for a 55 gallon. if there are no plants in your tank then there is no reason to have the light on at all. if there are plants 60 watts isnt enough to do much but grow algea. if you dont have any plants the algea doesnt have anything to compete with and will overtake your tank if you keep providing it with nutrients in the form of fish waste and food and light. if you do have plants they need more light so they can out compete the algea for nutrients. i'd suggest you either leave your light off except when viewing the tank or get more light and plants to out compete the algea.
