Is there a significant difference between brown and green algae :/ , is brown algae toxic to plecos if it is eaten by them???? I ask this because the new pleco i got died, it died like 4 days after i got it  i was tring to feed it algae wafers..but it didnt eat them, obvessly it didnt kno what they were,or im sure he would have ate them.. the tank it was in had no green algae in it...but it did have a bit of brown algae. It was a cute pleco too :-(
so im just wondering if the brown algae could have killed it???????? :dunno: :dunno:

Not all Plecs are algae eaters. Infact I think relatively few are!! IME I only get brown algae in any significant quantity when the tank is new, how long has your tank been set up? If it is only a new tank, then this is more likely the cause of the plecs death!!!
Oh yeah, even if the plec was eating the brown algae, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have killed it!

Brown algae shouldn't kill plecos - there must have been other reasons for your loss. Check your water parameters, and also see if the fishes at your LFS arebeing kept in a good condition...

ya i think the fish was sick when i got it or smething, they dont really look after there fish too well at my lfs, but it's a really busy place... they try i guess, but im always seeing dead fish in the tanks, and most of em have been there for a few days,,u can just tell -_-
The fish i got was the only one in the tank too..so maybe he was overly lonely...
i tried to feed it ..but it just didnt eat...
And my water is good...i test regularly :p
