My tank was algae-less for 5 months but then i decided to get some real plants for it and added some fertilizer. You've never seen a faster outbreak of brown algae in your life. Are the 2 related? Or is it just a coincidence that the same week i added fertilizer, i had a brown algae bloom.

The water is crystal clear as usual and I'm still doing a 30% water change every week. I'm not overstocked either so I'm quite confused as to why this is happening. Anyone have any ideas? And tips for getting rid of it?

This happened to me the first time I tried Tropica's liquid fertiliser. Try using half the stated dose. If you don't see any more algae and the plants are doing fine, then just keep to half the dose. If the plants look like they're struggling, increase the dose slightly. Don't forget, though, that some plants will struggle when first added to a tank. If they start to die off, just remove the dead leaves and give the plants another couple of weeks to adapt to their new home. Plants need careful choosing, just as fish do.

yep cut down on the fertilizer. give it time to settle down. :)
