i have brown algae in my 20 gallon. I have 2 lights in there and i have a fair bit of brown algae on the plants i have the lights on for about 10 hours a day. How do i get rid of the algae? What caused it? light specs below

light spec:

1 aqua glow = 18 inch length , 15 watts , light spectrum 18,000k , LUX 35 , diamiter 1inch
1 sun glow = 18 inch length , 15 watts , light spectrum 4200k , LUX 80 , diamiter 1 inch

manufactured by Hagen it also says (T-8).

p.s the above writing is whats on the box i have no idea what it means but i hope it helps with the question and if someone could explain the light spec it would help.

How long have you had the tank setup? if the tank isnt set up that long as planted tank brown algae or diatoms are very common and will disappear soon enough.

Im not sure about the Aqua Glow although these tubes are apperantly optimized for plant growth (they peak in the red and blue parts of the spectrum i think?) i think you would be better off swopping this tube for something in the 5000-7500k range, these tubes are really for reef tanks (but i could be wrong on this) these tubes are rated at 18000k and you really want the range i have indicated, although i have read reports of some people using these for FW planted tanks but they were mixed with hagen power glows........bottom line is im not really sure and your bottom line is you have algae, so i would swop the bulb for something more appropriate.

i got the lights which came with my Hagen Fluval Duo Deep tank the people at the lfs reccomended this for optimal plant growth and i have had the tank about 1 - 2 months tops

Lose the 18000K tube, like zig says...I put one of these in my tank at the start in ignorance and had algae almost immediately.......look for something around 5/6/7000K
