We thought that one of our bronze corys had popped it's clogs, couldn't find it anywhere in the tank, its mate was swimming around looking lost so a trip to the LFS was in order, got new cory popped it in the tank after temp balancing, the new one met the old one and they were doing what corys do !!! then out of know where appeared the missing one, haven't got the slightest idea where it was hiding.
? could it have been buried in the sand substrate !!

Also I've been having problems with algae the blue/dark green type so I dosed the tank with API Prevent algae, within an hour I had at least a dozen baby assassin snails + the two large ones that I knew were in the tank climbing up the glass from where they had been buried in the sand, will the treatment affect the snails ?

Without knowing the layout of your tank it's impossible to know where the fish could have been but I've often thought one of my fish have disappeared, only for them to reappear suddenly.

How long did you wait between noticing the fish was missing, buying the new one and the seeing the old one reappear?

Oh it must have been three days, I've got a pile of lava rock with no gaps for anything as large as a cory to get through, and a lump of well soaked hardwood branch, and a few plants, the tank is a 110Lt capacity

I'm not aware that they would bury themselves for a extended period although I guess it's possible that they were hiding somewhere you couldn't see.

Corys are better in groups of 5 upwards anyway so the more the merrier!

If the assassin snails were working their way up the side of the tank, you can bet there was something in the algae treatment that was affecting them. I have them in all my tanks, and if they show any kind of unusual behavior I investigate until I find out what's making them act strangely. They're kind of the canary in the coal mine for me.

Personally, I never use a chemical to remove algae, as it usually has some nasty stuff in it.  A lot of algae controls have copper, which is dangerous for inverts.

If its BGA (cyanobacteria) You can safely use Easy-Life "Blue Exit". I used a fraction more than specified and only waited a week and not 14 days between another dose I think and this killed it dead. In that period I never did a water change as cyanobacteria doesnt like nitrate I believe (not 100%) and corrected a co2 balance problem. with nitrates in 30's /40's instead of near 10-15ppm I think this also helps it spreading. correct me if I'm wrong

. If it is BGA its a pain, I tried a 4 day black out and it did not work at all

Possibly the treatment is not safe for inverts, keep an eye on the tank because dead snails will cause quite a spike in ammonia.
I would try removing the algae med via carbon and a few large water changes.

On a good note, the corys will be happier in bigger numbers, so they tricked you into buying them a new friend I think
