One of the two pads in my biowheel flter has some mighty big rips in them....Its beyond repair and its messing up the filtration...I was wondering if I could replace it without creating new tank syndrome? I have another filter pad, ceramic rings, carbon, and filter floss in there. Thanks :good:

As long as you don't replace more than 1/3 of the media you should be fine. But, to be safe, it would make sense to not feed for a day or two after replacing it, and test frequently (12 hours) for the next few days just to be sure.

Okay, thanks a lot :good:

Should be fine to just swap it for new one, sounds like there's plenty of other media in your filter that will have plenty of bacteria, just keep an eye on your water stats and water change when needed.

The filter pads for my filter all have carbon in them, so i slit them open and take out the carbon and replace with filter floss...I like to be able to control my carbon in a media bag, so since im only changing the pad, taking out the carbon and putting in the same filter floss as was in the old one, it'll be safe right?
