Well just under 4 months in and my Interpet filter is knackered.

Que 4 days of no filtration while my new filter turned up. I was doing 80% water changes daily to try and keep the amonia and nitrite levels down

I've now got an Eheim Classic 2215 External Filter installed and after 10 days the amonia & nitritre levels are back down to 0 24 hours after the last water change, so it looks like the filter cycle is nearly complete. Obvioulsy I'll be testing the water everyday for the next few weeks to see how the filter is performing, and conducting water changes as needed.

I guess I was quite lucky really, I've only had 1 Cardinal has gone missing. I was expecting quite a few to die.

Yes I've just set an eheim pro 3 2075 and currently seeding it with my internal filter and so far I'm impressed.

Keep checking your stats, you need the ammonia and nitrite to get to zero within 12 hours not 24 before the cyle will be completed. Not far off tho :good:

may i ask where you people have purchased your ehiem filters from? No shops seem to sell them, ? and im after one of the new pro 3 ones. thanks

i would take it apart and clean what ever you can, i had to do the same thing for a few of my top fins. use a toothbrush they work very well at scrubbing things you need to scrub.

other wise i keep at least one spare filter around just in case something brakes down. just a suggestion though.
