Hi all just found this today,

Just a quick question I am currently on BT Yahoo broadband (2 Mb) service and pay £29.99 per month.

I am quite happy with the service but I have had a look about and it would appear I am paying well over the odds.

If I was to change, how easy is it to transfer my wireless network onto another ISP?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Edit:

I am not able to get cable as I am not in a cable area.

You'll prob find you're tied into a 12 month contract, how long have you been with Yahoo? If its under a year then you'll probably have to pay a huge penality (normally dependant on the time left on the contract) to cancel it. But give them a call and find out, you probably have a way to cancel (although they may try and persuade you that you shouldn’t! but just keep asking till you get the answer you want/need), but you may have to pay for the privilege, as this may make any potential cost savings pointless.

You'd probably be better off waiting til the end of you're contact and then running for it!

EDIT - I take it your wireless network runs through a wireless router at your house? In which case any broadband sercive can be made 'wireless' its the wireless route that does the wireless bit, not the broadband company, they only say 'go wireless with BT or whoever' so you by their products! I'm 99% certain that any broadband service can be made wireless. You'll probably find you don't even need to unplug the router box from the phone socket, it'll just keep on working as it always has.

Hope this helps

Sam

I will have to give them a call as I have been with BT Yahoo for almost 2 years now so I am definatley not tied to them anymore.

Can anyone recommend a good ISP (but not Tiscalli as I was with them before and used to get re-routed to INDIA every time I had to call them)!!

Great news about the wireless network though, a friend of mine said I would probably have to change all of my equipment and set it up again, which put me off doing anything 6 months ago.

Yes i agree you will be tied to a 12month contract, it does start of alot more expensive but it comes down in price.

Word of warning it's a nightmare contacting bt i bloody hate it when i have to call them, so good luck.
