Hi. I have a 400L (~100G) planted tank, plain gravel substrate, 240W tri-phosphor lighting, Red Sea CO2 pro injection, daily fertiliser additions.

My hygro. polysperma is a bit brittle. Can't be due to light as I have about 2.4 Watts per gallon. It doesn't look too bad but when I touch it it 'snaps' apart easily. So do my other stem plants (ambulia sessiflora).

Could my tank not contain enough iron perhaps?

George - is it ok just to monitor iron levels in a planted tank? What level do you recommend?

Scott.

Sounds like a defficiency of some sort. From a quick look around, perhaps a lack of iron? Hopefully someone a little more knowledgeable can help :)

The Ambulia Sessiflora is the same, I just have to touch it and it breaks.

Could an iron deficiency cause this?
