Bristlenose Plec Breeding!

Hi All,

My Bristlenoses are finally spawning I think =) However my tank is in need of a water change, am I still ok to perform water changes even when the male is in the cave guarding the eggs? Dont want to disturb him looking after their eggs but at the same time, I really need to do a water change....

Any advice?

should be fine - just don't go mad - do 2 small ones over a couple of days....

Or if it hasn't been long since the last change - don't do one at all (ok thats just me being lazy!)

I've sold all our bristlenoses recently - (I'm guessing the pair in question is one of the pairs - either that or your forum name is an amazing coincident)

I'm waiting for the strikes to end before posting the last pair of starlights out.... just to keep me on my toes - they spawned last night!

how many eggs are there just had one of me male bn spawn with 4 females lots of eggs but not expecting all them to survive if he has fertilised all of the he must have some big go nads

Congrats to Scottca! Baby bristlenoses are SO cute. I just took my last batch of juvies to the lfs- won't be breeding them any more- and I feel so lonely without them.

My lfs has stopped taking fish against store credit. And since we don't have a car it's difficult to get to auctions to sell them. Also, if I do breed again, I'd like to try something different.

If so it must have been the previous owners good up bringing

Cant confirm a spawn yet am getting a little worried about the female tho, she seems to be quite red / has a lump like near the anus, pooping still (still way too much! bloody plecs lol).

is this normal for a female thats about to spawn ? Ill try and get a pic ...

it can be just before and just after... if its red I say just after... before looks swollen and orange (due to the eggs pushing out)
