Just had a light on my bristlenose in his cave and noticed he has white spots on him, im not sure if it is whitespot, or maybe something else, never had a problem in my tanks with this, no new fish, nothing changed, he was fine a few days back when the female laid her eggs, he is still in the cave guiding the eggs and looks fine, but i dont know what to do for the best...

Is there a way i can get him out fo there to treat? or maybe get the eggs out and still hacth ok? the eggs will be on thier 4th day tomorrow so nearly due to hatch, but wont treatment harm them?

Thanks in advance

Wayne

ADDED - both females are fine with no spots on them.

Could it be sand that hes wafted on himslef when he was fanning?

This had crossed my mind, but at closer inspection it looks like the spots are well attached to him, plus his cave is amazingly clean with no sand in it. i thought it was whitespot at first, but now im not sure cos i know velvet is similair..... I upped the temperature to 82F, but this was only a hour ago, so going to have to see if the spots fall off then start treatment asap...

Im going to use protozin (unless told otherwise) as i read this is most succesful one..

Really worried about him and the eggs :(

Worried about the temp being at 82F cos he is use to it being 25 deg - 26 deg....

Well i have to take the eggs out at the risk of them not hatching, i have them in a breeding trap with a airstone in....

In the 60L tank only the male is in now by himself ready to start treatment once the temp hits 82 and the spots start to fall off.

The eggs are in my other tank.

Tomorrow i am going to have to start the treatment on my 2 tanks (used the same bucket to waterchange them) just to be on the safe side for all the other fish in the tanks.

Whitespot. Spots the size of a grain of salt. Or looks like the fish has been sprinkled in salt.

Velvet. Golden yellow spots, a dusting of gold dust on the fish, rusty coloured varnish,or a dusting of talc on the fish.

Any signs of flicking and rubbing, darting, excess mucas.

Hey wilder :)

No signs of anything, he is just ebing his normal self, there is very few spots on him, i think its definitely whitespot, i have dosed the tank at half dosage, (decided to use API whitespot med) he seems happy enough at mo, so hopefully i got it in the early stages, all tanks have been treat regardless just to be on the safe side.

The meds will probably affect the eggs though right? i have them in one of the tanks in a trap with a air stone.

The eggs might be ok.

Let me know how you get on if you don't mind.
Good Luck.

Hey wilder, well i treated the tanks and so far all good, the whitespots have actually gone off him now but the second dose is due tomorrow...

I treated with API whitespot cure and according to the bottle it a fast curing med, it apparently only takes two dosages over 48 hours, then a 25% waterchange after another 48 hours, but i think i will continue the dosing after doing a 50% waterchange.

The eggs are now starting to hatch, 4 at moment, they started to hatch about 3 hours ago, so hopefully if all goes well they will be fine and survive :)

You can only half dose, or even less with fry.

Glad there on the mend.

Well all going well wilder, did the second dose last night (both doses was only half the recomended amount) all the eggs have hacthed all doing well.. the whitespot seems to be under control and the plecs are doing fine, the other female has even laid her eggs in the cave now and the male is gaurding them, so fingers crossed all will continue to be fine :)

Bless them.
Thanks for the update.
Congrats.
