Hi,
Just noticed a few tiny fry in my tank which i am 99% sure are Bristlenose cat fry.
I noticed the full sized bristlenoses i have trying to attack the fry, so i moved the 6 fry i could find into another smaller tank.

The tank i put them into is pretty small, 40x20cm approx (temporary obviously). Its heated, and i filled it with water from the big tank i found the fry in. I put a small piece of driftwood in the tank (size of a finger) and a handful of gravel, both from the big tank.

The tank is un-filtered at the moment, as i believe the fry are too small and will get sucked in to it, but i will change water daily (taken from big tank) until they are big enough.

I put some tiny chunks of algae disc in the tank too. There are 2 pics, one of 2 Fry (very hard to make out) and one of the eggs they hatched from.

What else can i do to raise these fry, and what should i feed them?

Any help is much appreciated.

Bristlenose fry are better swimmers than you'd think. I see mine swim on and off the filter intake all the time. So far I've had the best success with them in a planted aquarium transplanted away from the parents. I put three of them in there and they've grown well, better than those with the parents. I'm not sure why the planted tank is better except it has more algae growth in it and no other fish.

I do feed mine cucumber and other fresh vegetable however and they seem to do well on it.

the free swimmers will survive off their egg sacks for a few days then they should eat almost the same diet as the adults, the eggs probably wont survive unless they're really close to hatching. i presume this is your first batch as my adults abandoned the first attempt. :good: but all is good now and they really are taking over my tank

if theres eggs outside the cave in clumps put them in a breeding trap with some water flo over them and they will hatch then they will live of the egg sack til its gone then just release them back into the tank you wont see them for ages as they will hide

cheers dane
