i just thought of an easier way to get some live brimp w/o having to go through the time comsuming stuff. just go to the dollar store and buy one of those cheap sea monkey kits. :good: then you won't have to get things separately, like a separate tank, or salt, it's all in there. plus it's inexpensive. and no measuring crap

Are they only 1 dollar? What type of dollar store?
a regular dollar store   my friend got one for like $2.50. look for one in your neighborhood. or Cvs has them for like $6. they live for like two years , i might go pick some up right now. you don't even have to change the water

Wait...how is this easier or any less time consuming than hatching brine shrimp?
Plus it's significantly more expensive, and you will hatch out much less -_- .

Still, sea monkeys/brine shrimp are fun XD.

it's less time consuming because all you have to do is put three packets in water and you're done. and i wasn't sure about the price but you can definitely get it at the dollar store. you don't have to buy a separate tank, plus the food they give you for them lasts a year and they grow up to a half inch longer than regular brine shrimp. you get about a hundred, and they reproduce like crazy. sounds like a bargain to me. there's no checking on them every hour and changing the water every week like other brine shrimp. boost

so $1 (£0.50) for every thing and 100 shrimp.

Or i buy 100g for $10 (£5) i hatch mine in a glass milk bottle or a upturned pop bottle....

There are 250,000 egg per gram so thats 25 milllion eggs for $10 and for your's your need to spend $250,000 to get the same amount of food.......

I think i'll stick to my way and feed then straight away as it's a lot better and even fish up to 8" long will happily eat them all day long, and their the very best food for fry.

Helter, where do you get hold of them from? I can't find any at my lfs.
Thanks

if u get need loads www.brineshrimpdirect.com or i use ebay.

It's very cheep ATM which is nice, i remember getting 1lb back in 1994 that cost me £100 but the harvest crashed and was a mad few years

Basic Life cycle of all brine shrimp.

In good quality water they firstly produce live daughter offspring.
In poor water the produce male's.
Once the females are fertilised they produce eggs which can be dried as this is what would happen in nature.

Once the eggs are wet the on average hatch in 24 hours this is the best period to feed to fish as they have a large yolk sac.
The larvae at first do not have mouth parts for 3 days and the survive on the yolk sac, so the longer i leave it the less nutrition they contain.
After day 3 u then have to feed them phytoplankton which are single cell plants and are very small, growing green water in a sunny place will do in small numbers.
The after about 14 days they should be fully grown and will produce daughter's very quickly.

These will need quite a lot of food to survive, i grow some as a test with nothing added to 1 litre of water and i had 4-5 adults survive and the steady with that number for 3-4 months be for they all died off. So feeding green water will help if u wanted to keep them.
