I've got 2 Juvenile Brichardi in my tang setup, not sure exactly how old...

Now one is developing nicely whilst the other looks way too skinny, almost like an anorexic of the human world if that's even possible.

I've watched the feeding, etc he eats just as much if not more as the other fish and is not getting bullied either.

His/her head is really 'boney' looking and his/her body is real skinny.

Could this be a difference in sex? i've done some reading and i've found the only usual difference is in the fins where one develops bigger fins, etc, etc.

Heres a pic of the 'normal' brichardi-

And here's the skinny fish-

I'd really appreciate your help! thanks :)

The second fish dosent look very healthy. Its stomach is like a upside down " U". Not a good sign. Maybe a internal Parasite? Plus, its gills look a little puffy, possibly from Gill Flukes? What is your water parameters?

Defo defo brichardi. The fish has been skinny since i bought it, as i bought them both very small... he/she has just never developed properly in comparison to the other.

Stats as of about 5 mins ago are-

Temp- 26.3'c
PH- 7.6
Alkalinity- 10 KH
Hardness- 14 GH
Nitrate- 0
Nitrite- 0
Ammonia- Hovering between 0 and 0.25

All the fish are healthy... it's just this one which has always been this way.

Ok, if you're sure it's a Brichardi and wasn't mis-labelled at the store or wherever you bought it then it's likely a birth defect. Possibly cased by inbreeding, or maybe it was the "runt" of the litter. Sometimes these things are out of your control and there's really nothing you can do but feed them, give them an appropriate name such as "Special Ed" and hope they live a long and happy life ;)

LOL! I shall name him Barry!

Providing it's a male...

Can natures rejects still breed? I don't want him/her to but if i do have a male + female I don't want them to breed :(

Do they usually live a normal lifespan?

It all depends on the severity of the problem, we don't know what the actual problem is. Chances are that no, he/she won't reproduce or live as long. But there are always exceptions. Tust take good care of it and remember he/she wouldn't have survived as long as it has w/o you.

aw i feel all special now :) loll

Well i'll take good care of Barry. He's quite a lively character anyway :)

When i first started getting into fish keeping i adopted several danios from a woman who taught at my old school, they were her husbands who had passed and she didnt know what to do with them. Anyways one of the danio's had the same thing she said her husband always told her it was a collapsed stomach something the fish always had. Out of the 6 or so that i adopted from her this one with the "collapsed stomach" lived the longest. I would just keep up with feeding, it may right itself and indeed just be a malnurished fish or it may be a birth defect. Either way i wouldnt say it look like anything terribly life threatening. Ive seen it before and there were no problems in the long wrong that were caused by that.

Could have an eating disorder? Like a bulimiac fish?

In all seriousness, i've bred loads of Brichardi previous, some will look a bit like yor one then fill out.

Its survived this long and appears to be in good health then dont change anything and dont worrey. If male and female they may eventually pair up - Brichardi's make a habit of this and will breed every 3 weeks if conditions are ok. Watch for added aggression as this is a sure sign.

Good luck.
