Two of my 5 Brevis just started mouth wrestling. Their not actually grabbing each others mouths or lips but opening their mouth and going back and forth at each other.

Is this a sign of breeding between a male and female or two males sizing each other up or something else?
thx

Hmmm, well it is normal for male and female frontosa as that is a sign breeding. But in brevis I think that that is not normal I think that those two are males fighting.......I suggest that you do something about before things get ugly and nasty. one day when I sitting in front of my malawi tank I saw two male peacock cichlids fighting, after the battle is over the winner had started courting for the females and mated with several of them. so my point is that if you have a female brevis or 2,3 the males might fight over them only the winner or dominant will breed with the females. Good Luck!!
