is it a good idea to breed Colisa lalia (Dwarf Gourami) in a tank with a breeeding pair of rams??? it's a 20 gallons tank!

also, how do you sex dwarf gouramis

Hi Doggfather :)

To tell the gender of gouramis, the easiest way is to look at them from above. The female will have a rounded abdominal area that narrows toward the tail while the male is slender. The male will also have pointy dorsal and anal fins while the female's will be rounded.

With dwarf gouramis, the male is much more colorful than the female, which will have a more silvery appearance. This is a picture of a male:

Plan to breed your gouramis in their own tank and to remove the female shortly after the spawning is finished. Remove the male when the fry hatch. :D

i don't think my lfs stocks the females! i have only ever seen males, if they are more colourful :/ i wonder if they will get some in if i ask?

A lot of lfs don't stock the females, unfortunately! -_- It never hurts to ask, I say go ahead. Or just keep an eye out, you never know when you'll find one. I was lucky enough to find one at a pet store in with the guppies! She was just hiding out in the back, and not easy to spot. Never know, you might find one like that too!

Females are very hard to find. You may have to order them offline. Otherwise you will have to get very lucky to find female dwarves.
