Hi iv got a small group of for Dermogenys pusilla. i have two males and two females. In the near future i am oing to double the size of this group.

iv had these fish for about 2 months and so far i have had no fry.

Whan i kept them before i could not stop them breeding but and even though i dont really want to breed them i would like to know the feel secure enough to breed (especially considering my old ones wouldnt stop)

My tank is heavily planted at all levels and the only think i can think of is is my water to hard????

My ph is about 8.5 and my kh is mid 20's

Does any body thinkit is my water parameters that is the reason there not breeding?

Cheers Lloyd

To be honest im not to sure if they are Dermogenys siamensis actually

Apart from the fact that they ate severley shy fish. If they feel unsecure in their tank they wont breed. A well planted tank with caves and hives and a background should settle them.

They do need their own tank, and floating plants are a must. Identifying Dermogenys spp. is difficult. Some species breed better in slightly brackish water; others in soft, slightly acidic to neutral water. I've had most luck in water that was softer rather than hard, but miscarriages were quite common so be aware of their sensitivity to stress, bullying by males, and sudden changes in pH or hardness. There's some stuff on my web site that may be relevant.
