Breeding Tanks

With a breeding tank if it is already cycled is there any way of keeping it cycled with no fish in?

You could keep mature filter media in your main set-up and when needed transfer it across. Lots of people seem to use this method.

Another method is to add fish food to the tank and let it rot. But i have a feeling this adds others unwanted pollutants to the tank aswell.
