Hey guys, I'm new to the site and the world of saltwater fish. I have been reading books and am in the process of getting the whole set up. One thing that is motivating me is to possibly breed the fish, expecially Tang's or angelfish. Everything i read about the subject tells me that its impossible. Is that true of all saltwater fish, as well as the Tang's. Or has this been done and is possible under the right cirumstances?

lol.. first off validate ur account..

scond.. if it were not possible wouldn't they be extinct???????

i think what you are try to say is, is it poss to breed in a fish tank". well yes it is but none of the above fish. i think you will find that they will breed in deep water thus a 2ft deep tank is not even close to what is needed. there are some fish that can be tank bred, the most common are Banggai Cardinalfish and the sister fish Pajama Cardinalfish. the hard part is not trying to get them the sex more trying to keep the babys alive :(. most fish will look at them as a nice easy snack, you will also find that mum and dad wont mined a bit of a chew as well. one of the good things about the breeding of Cardinalfish is that they are mouth breeders, thus allowing the fish to grow and have some control before they spit ( much the same as affrica cichlids) they will then need a home this should be a long spiine sea urchin (as this is the natrual home) the next mild stone is trying to feed them. as Cardinalfish are larger once they have been spat it will be easy to feed them ( well easy may be the wrong word LOL) . ie they will be able to eat large section of food.

clown fish can also be tank raised but it is much much harder. the young are very small and need to be fed all the time. but you must make your own food for them .

hope that helps :good:
