Hi

I bought 3 female and 3 male rosy barbs today. They are in a 30L fully mature set up. Is this correct:

They will start to breed 5-7 weeks after settling in.

They will breed when you do a 20% water change with the new water being about 20oC, this triggers them to breed and the female will be noticably fatter. You then put them in a breeding trap.

Only around 25% of the eggs will hatch.

Anyone got any advice I would be very gratefull! :)

your tank is too small for rosy barbs. i'd upgrade to at least a 20 gallon long before trying to breed them.

after you've upgraded and cycled the new tank, put in a divider, leaving some space on the botton for the fry to swim through when the uneaten eggs hatch. the fry will look like tiny slivers of glass. feed them with bbs. when they get bigger, net them with a small net into a net breeder and go from there.

to get the rosy barbs to breed, they need enough room first. they also need to be conditioned on frozen and/or live food, in addition to a quality staple flake. i feed mine frozen brine shrimp twice a week.
