Soft, acidic water is needed to breed them. Also the tank should be a well matured and have no ammonia, no nitrate and hardly any nitrate. Buy 6 juviniles and wait for a pair to form then take out the other 4. Rams can be easily disturbed and put of ffrom breeding so a tank to themselves is best. Eggs will be laid of a flat rock and the parents will look after the fry (well, they are cichlids). Fry can be fed on brineshrimp, finely crushed flake, micro worms and liquid food.

Hope this helps.

how can you tell if they are a pair do they have breeding rituals?
cheers

They flirt and hang around each other a lot. They might even try and breed. You will also find that they will be the best looking out of all the other juviniles. You said you only had 2 and think they are a pair? Its definetly possible that yours are a pair.

thanks for the help are they quite similar to the behavior of kribensis in breeding rituals

Yes. They dont "shiver" as much as Kribs but do rub against one another and display their sides.
