I have a livebearer which I believe it a platy. I saw the male and female last night mating. I have a breeder container in the tank with some baby's from last month which I saved.

I was wondering how you can be sure when to put the pregnant mother fish in the breeder to save the babies. Some places I hear a month, some I hear 1 week... which one?

The gestation period of Livebearers (or, most. I know most about guppies but platys are about the same I think) is about 28 days. Most people like to put their fish in breeder boxes/nets a few days before they are due. But, since some fish dislike the small space while others don't mind it much, you'll have to watch your fish. If it starts thrashing and trying to get out, you should release her, and you'll just have to hope you're there when she has the fry so you can save them.
