Was just wondering what other peoples thoughts were on breeding nets or devices. I always get scared when i put my guppies in cuz they go crazy in there. I have a 5 preg guppies in a 10g and i just took the one male out i had and put him in another tank with my other males. My preg gup was hanging around my java moss and all the plants alot yesterday near the back of the tank and now after i took out my male has become very aggressive to the other 4 females.

I aslo was wondering if baby brine shrimp were good for adult guppies. i droped a few in and my fish went crazy for them. First time i ever fed bbs to my babies so i put a few drops in the big tank.

Not sure about the shrimp...

Devices are bad!!!! They are death traps for fry...

Breeder nets on the other hand are great!

That's just my 2¢. maybe someone else can offer more info on devices. I dont like them at all!

not really sure about the shrimp, but the Adult brine shrimp (frozen) are great energy sources for fish of any kind. They, however, are not nutritious and are snax for them, not a steady diet...

Are we talking about things to put fry into AFTER they are born, and things to put the mother in to HAVE her fry?

I like Breeder nets for young fry. Grow them up a little, and make sure they get food, and such. I would never put a pregnant fish in one to have fry, though. I would be way too worried it would stress her out, and cause her to abort. Or just plain stress her out. Plus, they can be kind of small for Swordies or Mollies. I know you have Guppies...but if you ever were to get these fish..I just added it. :p

Just my thoughts on it.

My preg gup was hanging around my java moss and all the plants alot yesterday near the back of the tank and now after i took out my male has become very aggressive to the other 4 females.

It sounds like she's pretty close to having her fry then! Usually when they start getting moody, and chase away other fish, they are close to having babies. :)

Breeding nets are great for raising fry in the first vunerable stages of their lives but cannot be used to raise them in to any decent size.
Using the net to put a pregnant fish in is a bit controveral and alot of it comes down to the situation. The only scenario where i think it is justified is when the pregnant fish is been harrassed by other fish in the tank alot and risks aborting her fry or dying from stress during giving birth- even so the max safe amount of time in a breeding net is 4days and they are also not good for larger livebearers like mollys and swordtails, you only want them in there for a max of 2days.
The scenario where i think a breeding net is not justified is when the owner puts the pregnant fish in the net for weeks or puts the fish in there even if she is not facing any hassle from other fish in the main tank. Putting one than one fish in a breeding net is also totally unaceptable.
To be honest though if you want to breed livebearers you should realy invest in a 10gal fry tank.

I dun even use any!!!!Just put lot of plants that will do and most of my fry survive and the pregnant fish got so many hidding place sometime i cant even find my fishes

thanks. for the invice. she looks like shes ready. shes been swimming kind of funny today. its like shes haveing a hard time. shes been moveing her tail alot more like side to side and her hole body is going side to side.

fry tanks are really cheap!!! If you get a 10g from walmart (the one that says great for cold water fish) you will only spend about 30 dollars. Comes with EVERYTHING you need for fry. Dont get gravel or anything like that!!! The fry can get killed if they get hung up in the substrate. You can find a 7 dollar hob heater that will do just great and a cheap thermometer and you will be set! (keep temp as close to 75 F (23.5 C) as you can. No more than that tho...

Then you need to do DAILY water changes!! About 10-20%. You will have to catch the fry up in a breeder OR tie the breeder net over the vaccuum end, so as to not kill any babies.

That's about all I can think of for right now...
