I have three female mollies and one male. I have tried to mate them but two blow up as though pregnant but when I remove them from the tank they just seem to go flat again. Not sure what is happening

The average gestation for mollys is 4 weeks. They will eat their own fry so you have to keep careful watch and either transfer the fry into a separate tank or put the female in a separate tank and then remove her after she has given birth, and put her back in the main tank.

The alternative is to provide lots of floating plants in the main tank to give the fry plenty of hiding space.

I'm not a great lover of breeding nets/traps as IME they stress the females out too much.
