I have a gorgeous female Krib that I would like to breed. Unfortunately, I've been having a little trouble with her...
I have her in a well-planted 25 gallon tank with a couple flowerpot caves, near-brackish conditions, and a temperature of 80 F. I knew that it is best to get kribs in a group and let them pair off on their own, but I tried putting her in the tank at the same time as a male to see if it might work out. That was a really stupid mistake. She killed him in less than a week. Awhile later, I tried adding a few rosy barbs as dither fish, rearranging the tank, and adding two males so that she could choose. I ending up moving her to a separate tank after she left one male so pale I could've sworn he was part albino and the other well on his way to the great aquarium in the sky.
I'm pretty hesitant about trying her out with anymore kribs.
What exactly do I have to do to get her to actually pair up instead of simply condemning one more krib to a rather violent death? Should I try putting her and a few males + another female in my 40 gallon and then moving her to the 25 to breed if/when she does pair up? My female may be a real looker, but she sure is a... we won't go there.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
