I am wondering if any one knows how difficult to breed jewel cichlids? and also the difference between the male and the female. i think i have to males, but not sure. i would like to get them to breed, buit i have know clue how to tell the gender of them. any help appretiated

Well if you can find a pair, just add water! :p They need a few flat surfaces and caves to hide in and to lay their eggs around. They will kill all other fish in the tank when breeding, and after breeding the female should be removed if she is not ready to spawn again (male may harass her to death, personal experience). I could never really tell the difference in sexes, I would recommend buying a few more (and getting rid of/moving the extras once a pair forms). You can tell you have a pair when 2 of them turn bright pink/red, and begin cleaning a rock and defending it :) Hope that helps!

ohh.... well maybe i dont want them suckers to breed too badly if they kill all others in the tank.... they are bright orange redish pinkish, they swim together alot aswell.... maybe i will jsut avoid breeding.. anyone else have some ideas?
