I added a male and female pair of Jack Dempseys to my 55 gallon tank a few weeks ago and they have already had babies. I'm debating on whether or not to keep them both or rehome the female (the male is really pretty...) But I think I would feel bad if I separated them because they swim around and hang out together even when they are not protecting eggs and fry. I have 4 female cons in the tank as well and they all seem to get along, except when the JDs were breeding.

I guess I'm wondering if it would be "too mean" to split the pair, if he would be sad without the female. Or if I leave them together is there a good way to destroy/remove any eggs they lay before they are fertilized?

Thanks for any advice you may have from experience with JDs and their emotional behavior.
