Ok, well I had a spare 30G just sitting around so of course MTS keeps biting and I wanna do a guppy breeding tank or maybe even some other livebearer. I understand that most livebearers are quite easy to breed but just wondering if there are any particularities that need to be addressed to help the fish feel right at home?

Also, I believe that for breeding, keeping a proportion of males to females maybe 1 male for every 2 to 3 females should be done correct?

Any other pointers are appreciated.

Thanks,
Ox :good:

NVMd for now guys. Actually was proactive instead of looking to be spoonfed info so I have been looking through the stickies. Any questions will be posted if I have them.

Thanks,

NVMd should have been prob just nvm or "Nevermind"

This is the first time I used the acronym MTS because I didnt feel I had it before about 2 days ago, but many memebers of TFF use this acronym to describe their fishkeeping obsession. It stands for "Multi Tank Syndrome"

Well thats what it was originally, but some members have turned it into another meaning, so now I guess you have to know the context of the whole post to understand which meaning the person is trying to convey. Damn English language.... haha

Ratio is correct and frequent water changes will be required for the fry to grow quick. I find when my livebearers get very pregnant a water change will make them drop their fry overnight....

Most livebearers breed very easily. In fact, they r called J.A.W. fish (Just Add Water), becuz thats all u hav 2 do! If you keep ur fry with ur adult fish, you should hav hiding places for fry cuz the parents will eat them. Fry will hid in plants so u should hav a heavily planted tank for them. Hope this stuff helps! I hav a mosquitofish thats pregnant and i just followed everyone elses tips on here. Good Luck!

I find adding java moss, and a few coconuts are an excellent hiding place for the fry. That's in my experience. And also if the tank is big enough, the mothers shouldn't bother the fry too much.
