Good Afternoon All,

I have been interested in giving breeding a go for a while and as German Blue Rams are my favourite fish i thought why not give this a go.

I recently acquired a 90 Litre Aqua One AR620 tank which i plan to use for this. The tank was in a house fire so i had to clean it up which took the best part of five hours to do.

Anyway, the tank is currently in a cycle at the moment due to the filter bacteria being virtually non existent when i got the tank from the previous owner. I can however transfer media from my main tank to this tank to help but im in no rush to get this tank running until i have a good idea what i should need to do and have ready for breeding.

In the tank i have added pea gravel and a small slate cave i made from slate i collected whilst on holiday in Wales. A heater and of course the filter.

Here is the tank

Now is there anything else I should add to the tank such as more cover like plants and so forth ? I do have a plant pot that I will be adding so if they don't like the cave they can try the pot.

Also I do have 5 GBR's in my main tank 3 females and 2 males. However they do not seem to be pairing up. Could this be down to the tank layout ? as there is no caves or flat stone for laying eggs. Would it be worth moving a pair over to the breeding tank to see if they change there mind when the tanks ready ? or would you suggest I try and find a pair that is already breeding ?

Like I say I am here for advice so please if you have any I would be very greatful to hear it.

Cheers

Can I also hijack this post as I am having the same problem.

Have 5 rams 3 males 2 females but they do not appear to be pairing up. I would also like ideas as to how to change?

It's all about nice soft water with rams. If you haven't had a pair form yet is look at the water to see if its suited. At the moment the market is flooded poor quality rams. Do you guys have any pics, I'm trying to source some good quality rams at the moment.

Wait for them to pair up; they'll spawn in your main tank once they're a 'true' pair, then move them over. Sand would be better too, as rams are in the geophagine ('earth-eater') family

Ok ill keep waiting and see if they start to take interest in pairing. Ill get some sand aswell asap.

Cheers
