I've been wanting to breed German blue rams for a while now and finally have the space available to try. I have a male and 2 females but the male is a lot bigger than the females. I know that these fish reach sexual maturity quite young/small but would pairing them now be a risk to the smaller females. Also I'm assuming that with the females being smaller, they will produce less eggs than if I were to let them grow a bit.

I come from a good soft water area so I think ill be able to get the water chemistry right but obviously don't want to go ahead yet if I'm gonna risk my current stock.

just a quick update and hoping for some advice really. ive put my 2 small females in a 60 litre on there own to grow out a bit quicker than in my community set ups. as of yesterday both females looked very plump and i could clearly see their breeding tubes. although they are still small should i add my male now??? or just be patient and wait???

Wait for what? female rams can and will spawn at barely a inch long, even then they can produce clutches around 150 strong.. If they are showing a strong colouration and their breeding tubes i would not hesitate to try to spawn them early. It certainly wont do any harm.

Ok I will add a male. I have the option of 3 different males, one significantly larger and 2 a bit bigger in my parents community set up. Which do u think will yield the best results?

Size doesn't matter; you want to pick the male that is the healthiest and the nearest to your ideal of what a ram should look like.
