I am going to try to breed a pair of Gourami but I do not no where to begin. I have never bred fish before. Is there an easier fish I can begin with first? And if Gourami fish are easy can you please give me some tips? (I am not going to be selling them, I want to put them in a community tank.) Thank you! :hyper:

Livebearing fish are by far the easiest to breed and can be prolific!!

All you need is a Male and a couple of girls and..........................

yeah a good easy fish to start breeding is definatley livebearers so something liek platy's, mollies, guppies etc... go to the livebearers section of this forum and there's all the info you'll need to get started there.

Get a pr of gouramis and put them in a 2ft or 30inch tank.
Have a sponge filter in the tank but don't have too much surface movement.
Have a coverglass on the tank and some floating plants in the tank. Water Sprite (Ceratopteris thalictroides) is the best for this.
Keep the temperature around 28C.
Feed the fish 2-3 times per day with lots of different foods.

The male will build a bubblenest on the surface and then the pr will breed. The eggs will be put in the nest and guarded by the male. A few days later the eggs hatch and the male keeps them in the nest until they start swimming.
Then the fry need to be fed on very fine foods like infusoria & green water. A week later you can add newly hatched brineshrimp to their diet.
The female is usually removed from the breeding tank after she has spawned.
