I have two Dwarf Gourami's called Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is the male and Juliet is the female...duh. These are the first Dwarf Gourami's I've ever had but I know I how to tell they're sexes, so there is no problem there.
I had bought them together about 2 months ago, I never had any problems with them. The only bad experience was with the golden algae eater attacking Romeo once but that was it (don't worry I gave the GAE back to my lfs). Romeo recovered very well :)

What I really want to do is breed them... but I don't know how. I know the male is ment to create a bubble-nest and get the female to lay her eggs in them. Then he protects the eggs till they hatch, but how do you start this?
I have many different hidding spots in my tank and many plants. The filteration ss good and same as the oxygen level... what am I doing wrong?!

I wouldn't call me an expert on gouramis, but I have had some Dwarf Gouramis in the past (lol, I sound old). Anyway, I was reading about breeding gouramis and all I've found is that i'ts very hard!

Wow...it does sound really hard
...I'm gonna try! I've always wanted to breed them before and just because it's really really hard to breed them won't stop me. I need an extra tank though... This is already starting to show trouble, at least it's a heavily planted tank.

Checklist:

Tall plants which reach the surface of the water (YES)
Infusoria or microworms (NO)
Extra Tank (NO)

Do you have to do this?

*lower water level to 20 cm's
*small water changes using cool water
*spawning is best achieved in a sperate tank
*When all the eggs have been put into the nest the male will become aggressive towards the female so it is best to remove her
*It is best to remove the male at this time or he may start eating his young
*The fry are extremely small and will only accept tiny foods. They do best on a diet of Infusoria or microworms but start feeding them brine nauplii as soon as the fry are large enough to accept them. Ground up fish flakes may also be accepted but it is not recommended you feed it since the uneaten food will rot in the water. The water temperature must be 26 - 28 degrees for best growth. Cover Glass is also essential since the fry will develop their labyrinth organ and need warm air above the tank. If the air is too cold they may develop pneumonia and die.

...sorry, a real beginner in breeding Dwarf Gourami is here.... :*)

I'm really gonna need extra tanks here...

i got 2 male flame gourami!

They constantly build their nests and steal bits of plants from each others the fight in the middle of the tank!

So funny!

I would get them some females but I fear that would make them much, much worse!

Good luck Guppylover!!
