Hi,

I have a 2ft tropical set up with 5 mixed platys and 2 female balloon mollies. All is fine and my fish are well and healthy but my platys are breeding like crazy and I am worried about my tank becomming over stocked.

Could anyone suggest a good community fish which might appreciate having the platy fry as a little snack?

Thanks.

I don't know, but I think bettas enjoy a snack on fry sometimes... Obviously not for community, but I'm pursuading people to get bettas... :D

They usually eat there young anyway if they can catch them, you could give the fry to lfs when they get to six weeks, or buy another tank and seperate the males from females.

Unfortunatly Space is a big issue in my house and I have no room for extra tanks. The fry do well in my tank and some have fully grown but my LFS will not take them off me because they all have died in the past. I really wanted to know about a fish I could buy which will eat them as the parents do not seem interested.

I WISH lol. My tank isn't densely planted or anything, and I still had 30+ fry surviving on a monthly basis. I guess it depends on the platys -- mine totally ignore the fry.

When I asked this question a while back (you might check the livebearer section, I think that's where I posted it) people told me danios -- which didn't work either.

I wound up getting rid of my adult platys, and as the fry get big enough, I'm getting rid of them to ... no more livebearers for me! :(
