These are the cups in question but I get the half pint ones, the girls sit in here and it really depends on how much water you have in the breeding tank cause if it is shallow (around 5 inches or so) then the cup sits on the bottom of the tank and does not float, any more water and there is still no problem you just have to gauge how much water to have in the cup for it to float, never had one tip :good:

A glass hurricane lamp is perfect- it's basically a glass tube with a wider bulge in the middle, and you can find it at a craft store or Wal-Mart, usually in the floral section. I've also heard of people just cutting the top and bottom off a 2-liter soda bottle.

I prefer to use a "tube" structure rather than a floating cup because I think that male bettas produce hormones that induce a female to produce eggs and get ready to spawn, and it's really easy to briefly lift or tilt the tube to let tank water in.

i also use the breeding traps others i now use cut down 2l pop bottles

Why not just use a right side up jar. Peanut butter jars or pickle jars are failry large...and if you have the tank only half full, then she won't be able to jump out. I've never succesfully bred a betta, but when I tried thats what I used.
